"Spangle Army" Glasgow
Im Herbst des Jahres 2004 stand er da. Keith McAllister, Supporter des Queens Park f.c. und stolzer Schotte. Er war eigentlich auf der Durchreise nach Mannheim zu einem U20 Match der Schotten gegen Deutschland, hatte aber versprochen die Blues Brothers zu besuchen. Der Kontakt war eher durch Zufall entstanden, da sich die Brothers seit eh und je für Schottland interessierten und dorthin eine gemeinsame Fussballfahrt veranstalten wollten. So war es ein Artikel des 11 Freunde Magazins der die Blues Brothers auf den QPFC aufmerksam machte. Ein Amateurverein der im großen Hampden Park spielt und dann noch in schwarz-weiß ? Perfekt ! Und so wurde kurzerhand via Internetforum ein Kontakt hergestellt und einige Wochen später saß der bärtige Schotte mit Kilt im Charivari und erzählte von sich und seinem Queens Park f.c.
Was an diesem legendären Abend begann ist mittlerweile eine faszinierende Fanfreundschaft zwischen Schotten und Wattenscheidern geworden. Viele persönliche Kontakte, sogar Freundschaften sind gereift und die vielen gegenseitigen Besuche unterstreichen die entstandene Verbundenheit. Legendär war sicherlich der erste Besuch der Blues Brothers in Glasgow sowie der Gegenbesuch der Schotten vor der WM2006 doch auch die vielen kleinen Touren haben ihren speziellen reiz.
Fußballerisch gab es mittlerweile sogar erste Vergleiche zwischen der SG und dem QPFC, denn die Schotten führten mehrmals ihr
Sommertrainingslager in Wattenscheid durch, vielleichtgibt es auch hier mal einen Gegenbesuch. Was die Zukunft auch bringt, sie ist schwarz und weiß.
Der Verein wurde 1867 gegründet
Keith McAllister höchstpersönlich läßt es sich nicht nehmen einige Worte an dieser Stelle zu schreiben, doch lest selbst :
"How do you make a Scotsman happy? Buy him beer and ask him to talk about his passion in life – football! This was the scene at the first meeting of the Queen’s Park and Wattenscheid fans back in December 2004 (was it really that long ago?) in the Charivari Bar . The Irn Bru Firm meets the Blues Brothers; and the result was a beautiful baby, the Spangle Army! For those who do not know, “spangle” is a word we use in Scotland for a complete idiot….but in a nice way.
Fans of Queen’s Park and SG Wattenscheid 09 have so much in common. We both play in black and white; our teams have a history that is better than our present position; we both have footballing neighbours that we do not like; our local areas have the same history (heavy industry ……..then no heavy industry!); and both sets of fans enjoy beer!
Although we have so much in common, even our differences are enjoyable. In Scotland, anyone drunk at a football match can be arrested. We cannot drink alcohol in the ground, or on the way to the ground. So, watching football in Germany is like visiting Heaven for us. Beer, sausages and football in the same place – bloody marvellous!
Of course, language can be a problem. Most Germans can speak very good English. Unfortunately, most Scots cannot speak very good English! So, the SGW fans sometimes struggle to understand our Glasgow accents. But beer can fix this. After our first visit, one SGW fan wrote on your Forum, “I cannot understand the Scots until I have drunk ten beers!” Wunderbar! Beer – the international language!
In Britain, we are lazy at learning other languages. So, we have to rely on a few favourite phrases. I have to thank international lover, Herr Bastian Renner, for telling me that “Ich liebe dich” and “Zwei bier, bitte” are all that a Scotsman needs to know in German. He is right. For four beers you say, ““Zwei bier, bitte und Zwei bier, bitte”. Hey, it is so easy!
That meeting in the Charivari in 2004 started a great friendship and one which we in Glasgow cherish. “Fanfreundeschaft” is not something that is done in Britain, but this link with the Ruhrgebeit is truly fantastic.
Our club have had a training camp in Wattenscheid for the last 3 years and we cannot thank the SGW supporters enough for all their help. Where people give up their free time and holidays to help our team, there is surely a great spirit. This, my friends, is the spirit that will help YOUR team to recover its rightful place in Germany football.
We have made personal friendships that will last a lifetime. I always say that football has given me so much in life. This link is another wonderful example of that.
